Clyde Santee Accepted To University of Massachusetts

With all the football recruiting news, we need to clean up a loose end on the basketball front.

UMass hoops has added combo guard Clyde Santee. But wait. It’s not that simple. Santee’s recruiting has not been common. There have been numerous reports about what schools were interested in the talented swingman from Houston. Rivals has Auburn, Gonzaga, LSU, Marquette, Oregon and Tennessee all offering a scholarship. Scout has him rated as a 3-star recruit, while ESPN has given him 2-stars.

Clyde is an academic nonqualifier. This means he cannot receive a scholarship until his second year at UMass. Santee will sit out this season and become eligible for the 2013-14 campaign.

UMass may have found a bit of a hidden gem in Santee. Coach Kellogg has two open scholarships for the class of 2013.

UPDATE:

Santee is now on campus.
