Coach Molnar’s 2012 UMass Recruiting Class

This was the backdrop to the 2012 recruiting class press conference. It’s a brilliant use of two of the most prominent current Minutemen alumni. Kudos, UMass athletics.

After briefly introducing each of the 24 recruits during yesterday afternoon’s presser, Molnar talked about adding size to the offensive line, and adding depth at the skill positions (especially WR). He also mentioned that AJ Doyle solidifies another option at QB. It seems like Molnar is very high on him in comparison to what he has seen from tape of last year’s two UMass QBs.

“We really got ourselves some football players that at the beginning I wasn’t certain we would be able to attract players of such high quality just because they wouldn’t be available,” Molnar said during the press conference. “But we managed to get some turned when they were committed to other schools and once they saw what we were doing at UMass they decided to join in.”

Getting these recruits in such a short period of time should only make Minutemen fans anxious and hopeful regarding what Molnar and company can do with a full year under their belts.

Coach Molnar said that the high school coaches and players knew who he was before even meeting him. Moreover, based on what Molnar told Josh Maurer, the recruits were very receptive to the idea of playing at a FBS UMass program. The audio cut aired at half-time of the hoops game.

Also in that same interview, coach mentioned that he was in contact with some 2013 recruits today. He also confirmed that they offered multiple scholarships to 2013 recruits just today.

But, first thing’s first. We will have more analysis of the 2012 class in the coming days.
