RDM runs through his take on the candidates for the open UMass football head coach position.
Tim Murphy is the current football coach at Harvard University. He has been in Cambridge (Brighton?) since 1994. That’s 18 seasons. With the Crimson coach Murphy is 119-59. He has won 6 Ivy League titles. In the early 1990s, Murphy was the coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats. And, before that, he was at the University of Maine.
Murphy has the head coaching experience that UMass desires. Although most of it is at the FCS level, he does have additional FBS experience — albeit nearly two decades ago.
I have little knowledge of Time Murphy personally or professionally. For some reason, I have a feeling he might just be content at Harvard, in the FCS division.
If he wanted to leave, he probably would have by now. I’m not sure Massachusetts will be the job to lure him from his Ivy perch.
