UMass Football Head Coach Candidates — Jim Reid

RDM runs through his take on the candidates for the open UMass football head coach position.

Reid is 60 years old. With that age comes experience, including at the University of Massachusetts. Reid spent 19 years coaching at UMass. In 1973 he started his two seasons as a graduate assistant. In 1975 he begin an eleven seasons stint as an assistant coach. He wrapped up his time in Amherst with six seasons as the head coach.

Reid went 36-29-2 in his time as a head coach for the Minutemen.

After leaving the valley, Reid has held a wide variety of defensive positions in college. In January 2008 Tony Sparano and the Miami Dolphins hired Reid as their outside linebackers coach. In January 2010 Reid was announced as the defensive coordinator and associate head coach of the University of Virginia Cavaliers.

I wasn’t even aware of the existence of Jim Reid until this week. With that preface, I feel that Reid is a fallback option. I would hope he would love to take another crack at a head coaching gig in Amherst.
