UMass Football Head Coach Candidates — Calvin Magee

RDM runs through his take on the candidates for the open UMass football head coach position.

Magee played at USF up until 1990. After his playing days, Magee also started his coaching career in South Florida. During the 1996 season he was the tight ends at USF. From 1997-2000 he was the running back’s coach and “run game coordinator”.

After leaving South Florida, Magee headed to West Virginia. From 2001-2007 Magee was the running back’s coach for the Mountaineers. In 2005 he took over as offensive coordinator. He found his next stop to be Michigan in 2007. From ’07 to ’10, Magee was the associate head coach and offensive coordinator.

This past off-season, Magee took a job at Pittsburgh. This season he was an assistant head coach, co-offensive coordinator, and running back’s coach.

The word is that he is a “hot” and “up-and-coming” college head coaching candidate. Beyond that, Magee is completely unproven as a head man.
