RDM runs through his take on the candidates for the open UMass football head coach position.
Neal Brown is the current offensive coordinator at Texas Tech University. He played football for the University of Massachusetts during 2001 – 2002. Before that he played at the University of Kentucky. He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Management in 2002 and his Masters in Business Administration in 2005, both from UMass.
I presume this is where he learned how to make this nice PowerPoint about TTU and the two high safety set.
He has been the OC at Texas Tech since 2010. In his first season the Red Raiders finished fourth in the Big 12 conference in total offense with over 460 yards-per-game, and fourth in scoring at a 33 points-per-game clip.
Brown did previously coach at UMass. During the 2003 season he was the tight end’s coach for the Minutemen football team.
I’d be the first to say that Neal Brown isn’t as exciting a hire as the first three candidates I wrote about. That said, if youth and enthusiasm is what the administration is looking for — this Brown might be their guy.
